For more than three decades, Helen Maria Nugent has worked as a designer, educator, and futurist, pioneering action-oriented strategies across art and design education. Her work reimagines curricula and creates transformative opportunities for students and faculty through intentional partnerships with industry giants like Google, Samsung, Lenovo, Motorola, CB2, among others.
Nugent has held prominent academic leadership roles, including dean of design at California College of the Arts, director of the First Year Program, and founding chair of the Designed Objects department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, co-director of WARP at the University of Florida, and creator of the DesignArts discipline for the National YoungArts Foundation. As co-founder of Haelo Design, Nugent interprets imagined futures as raw material to transcend the design of objects into the design of anticipation, inspiring collective thinking, learning, and action.
