Rosewood Board

Ray and Charles Eames applied the same rigor to finish as they did to structure and form. Material selection and surface treatment were integral to the design process, not secondary decisions.

This molded plywood panel features a premium rosewood face veneer⁠—the same species later used on the back shells of the Eames 670 Lounge Chair. It served as a test piece in evaluating finish options, with the handwritten notation “Approved wax finish for rosewood moldings. Other side” marking it as an approved standard.
