We invite you to host your next team retreat or creative convening at the Eames Archives⁠—a setting unlike any other. As home to one of the most significant collections of Eames designs in the world, the space is steeped in the legacy of Ray and Charles Eames, whose work was rooted in curiosity, connection, and purposeful design. Groups have access to the Eames Institute office space, creating a seamless and inspiring setting for focused work and creative exchange.

Private Tours

Book a private tour of the Eames Archives with Llisa Demetrios, chief curator of the Eames Institute and granddaughter of Ray and Charles Eames. By sharing family stories and rarely seen artifacts that capture the Eameses’ curiosity and design process, Llisa offers a uniquely personal view into the collection. Private tours are held on Thursdays, from 10 am to 11:30 am, and are for up to 15 people.

Private Tour Membership

Access to a monthly private tour of the Eames Archives for your organization.

  • One private tour per month

  • For groups of up to 15 people at a time

  • Tours must be scheduled in advance

  • Led by Llisa Demetrios (unless she is unavailable)

  • No refunds for unused or unscheduled tours

Price: $20,000/year

We offer discounted rates for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and nonprofit academic institutions. These rates are applicable to all experiences presented.

Off-Sites & Retreats

Come for a half-day off-site or a full-day retreat designed to inspire connection, creativity, and meaningful work. Begin the day with a private tour of the Eames Archives led by Llisa Demetrios, chief curator of the Eames Institute and granddaughter of Ray and Charles Eames. This immersive experience offers a deep dive into the legacy of the Eameses that sparks insight and sets the tone for shared reflection and fresh thinking.

Guests leave the tour energized and bonded by a shared understanding of the Eames design philosophy⁠—an ideal foundation for collaborative work. After the tour, regroup over lunch before continuing with team workshops, strategic planning, or creative sessions in our thoughtfully designed upstairs space. The space accommodates both large gatherings and smaller breakout discussions, with on-site support staff ensuring everything runs smoothly⁠—allowing you to make the most of your time together.

With 2,700 square feet of workspace featuring iconic Eames designs, modern furnishings, plenty of natural light, and views of the archives and the Bay, our space is thoughtfully designed to spark creativity and connection.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Where are the group experiences held?

    1330 S. 51st Street Richmond, CA 94804. There is plenty of on-site parking available.

    Is there a maximum group size?

    Our venue comfortably accommodates groups up to 30 participants. For larger groups, please reach out to discuss options.

    Is transportation provided?

    No. You must arrange for your own transportation.

    Is Wi-Fi available?

    Yes, high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the venue.

    Will meals and refreshments be provided?

    Breakfast, snacks, and beverages can be provided upon request. Lunch service is not included but we will provide a list of excellent options to order from in the area.

    Is the venue accessible?

    The tour portion of the venue is wheelchair accessible. The upper level is not accessible and can only be accessed by stairs.

    Is there outdoor space?

    There is access to the Bay Trail, a 14-mile walking trail along the Bay. The path to get to the trail is only a 4-minute walk from the Archives but is recommended only for intrepid groups! Please inquire for more details.

    How far in advance should we book our group experience?

    We recommend booking at least 2–3 months in advance to ensure your preferred date and to allow time for planning.

    What is your cancellation policy?

    Cancellations made 3 weeks in advance receive a full refund; later cancellations may incur a fee. Please see our contract for details.

    What types of spaces are available for our team?

    We offer a meeting room, breakout spaces, and communal gathering zones suitable for both workshops and relaxation.

    Is Wi-Fi and A/V equipment included?

    Yes, high-speed Wi-Fi, screens, microphones, and basic tech support are included in your rental. Additional equipment is available upon request.

    Do you provide furniture and setup?

    Yes, tables, chairs, and lounge seating are included. Our team will help with basic setup and breakdown.

    What time can we access the venue?

    Standard access is from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Early access or late closing may be available for an additional fee.

    Do you provide facilitators or programming?

    While we don’t lead retreats ourselves, we can plug in for specific workshops or presentations for an additional fee. We are also happy to connect you with trusted partners for facilitation and/or team-building activities if you are looking for full facilitation.

    Can we bring in outside vendors (photographers, facilitators, entertainers)?

    Yes, outside vendors are welcome. We ask that you notify us in advance so we can coordinate access and logistics.

    Can I bring my kid?

    Due to the fragile nature of the objects in the space, infants and children under 12 are not permitted.

    What about dogs?

    Leave pets and support animals at home. ADA-recognized service dogs are welcome throughout the Archives.

    What’s included in the rental fee?

    Venue access, furniture, Wi-Fi, A/V equipment, and on-site support are included.

    Do you offer nonprofit or education discounts?

    Yes, we provide 10–20% discounts for qualifying nonprofit and educational organizations.

    When is payment due?

    A deposit of 50% is required to secure your date, with the balance due 12 business days before the retreat.
