This prototype seat was an early product of the Kazam! machine—a large wooden device with an inflatable rubber pouch used to mold plywood into compound curves. This prototype is an example of their original concept to create a comfortable seat from a single piece of plywood that didn’t require upholstery.
A paper label printed in black ink reading “CHARLES EAMES, 901 WASHINGTON BOULEVARD, VENICE, CALIFORNIA SM-65991” is attached to the underside.
