Yearbook Cartoon for Yeatman High School

Charles’s cartoon for the Yeatman High School yearbook presents a humorous yet hopeful view on the fate of graduating seniors. A free-floating leg representing Yeatman High has booted a male figure off of a ledge, yet he remains suspended in the air, buoyed by a parachute labeled “a high school education.” Charles was just a freshman when he made this drawing, yet elements of the figure suggest he may have projected himself into the visual story. Descending into “the world,” the figure holds onto a long roll of paper and his sleeves are rolled up, two defining characteristics of a draftsman.
