    • Handmade Fiberglass Study for Side Shell

    The smooth surface on the front and the rough surface on the back indicates that this shell was made by hand. Rather than sketch ideas for a chair, Ray and Charles liked to be very hands-on and work with the material directly to iterate. As a result, there are very few sketches of chairs from this time.
