Scale Study for Plyformed Wood Company Logo
In this scale study, Ray works out the contours of an irregular shape in order to systematically reduce and enlarge it as needed. The rounded and almost lifelike abstract shape brings to mind the dreamlike forms in paintings by Joan Miró and playful reliefs by Hans Arp. Ray designed the logo to represent the Plyformed Wood Company and it would also be used as the mark for the Evans Molded Plywood Productions Division, where the Eameses continued to manufacture plywood splints until 1945.
