“High Tea” Postcard

This postcard, designed by the Eames Office for Herman Miller, shows a craftsman on his lunch break—tools scattered nearby—sitting in an Eames chair at an Eames Folded Leg Table.

The image echoes something Charles Eames once said while developing another chair: “Whatever it is, it’s something that has been done really not just for a specific client anymore, but for the people that work in the factory with us day by day—who would flop down in one at the end of a hard day—and from whom we would really get our feedback, our clues.”

In materials like this, the Eames Office made that idea visible. Their designs weren’t just for clients or showrooms—they were for the people who built them, used them, and lived with them every day.
