Marble Top Coffee Table
This table is a variation of the dowel-leg coffee table that Ray and Charles Eames designed for the alcove in their own home, the Eames House. The original table features a gold leaf–plated brass top rather than marble.
After creating the first version for their home, the Eameses revisited the design on only two known occasions—both for private commissions. One was for John Tigrett, original manufacturer of Eames Toys and the Hang-It-All; the other for Philip Dunne, a leading screenwriter at Twentieth Century Fox. In each case, they produced close variations of the Eames House table.
In collaboration with the Eames Office, Vitra later brought the table into production for the first time, introducing this marble-top version—an interpretation that extends the original design while preserving its essential form and spirit.
Gift of Vitra.
