Dice from 1964 New York World’s Fair
Bill Miner played an important role as a project manager for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. He contacted us when the Eames Institute launched to share that working with Charles and Ray Eames was the highlight of his life. He gifted a sign and these oversized dice from the exhibit itself.
A fellow Eames Office staff member remembered Bill as especially good at working with the New York City union building trades during the fair. That was a valuable skill on a project of this size and complexity. He was practical and street smart—the kind of person who could help keep difficult projects moving forward.
People like Bill were essential to making the Eameses’ ambitious ideas real. He helped connect the creative side of the work with the people who actually built it. Years later, the fact that he carefully kept these objects says a lot about how much the experience meant to him.
