At the Eames Institute, we aim to equip everyone with the lessons of Ray and Charles Eames, so that anyone can use design to solve problems. 

We are seeking a Facilities Manager with a passion for maintaining a standard of excellence across facilities in order to foster a great experience for staff and guests. The Facilities Manager would be responsible for the maintenance of the various structures owned and leased by the Eames Institute. Primary among these are the structures at the Eames Ranch in Petaluma, consisting of a 12,000 sf main residence structure and a 7,800 sf barnboth designed by William Turnbull Jr. and built in the mid-1990’s - along with various structures on the adjacent ranch.

As the Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for:

Day to Day Facilities Maintenance 

  • Ensure smooth daily operation of facilities, which includes monitoring and responding to requests from site staff 
  • Monitor infrastructure systems, including water, conventional & solar energy use, septic and water reporting, security, fire and smoke alarm systems, AED and First Aid kit, internet access, weather station and air quality monitoring
  • Maintain 7,800 ft2 barn and shops, including keeping it clean and organized
  • Upon request, assist in moving Collection items and equipment 
  • Assist in maintaining and operation of the wood and metal shops, and train/assist others in their operation
  • Maintain ranch vehicles (currently including Ranch Truck, UTV, Gator, mower, handheld landscaping, forklift, and tractors)

Operations Support

  • Support Director of Ranch Operations on various tasks as needed
  • Execute on special projects ranging in scale across improvements, furnishings, and structures
  • Support the Farm Manager by occasionally tending to garden and sheep and supporting rotational grazing infrastructure
  • Assist in seasonal transitions including preparations for fire and wet seasons.
  • Provide facilities and operations support at other Eames Institute sites as needed
  • Assist with site support during Eames Ranch building remodel
  • Being on-hand to assist with event set-up and breakdown for tours and various visitor-oriented events

Organization & Culture

  • Represent Eames Institute’s value around the guest-host relationship, bringing a sense of welcome and care to coworkers and visitors at the Ranch
  • Participate in and add to our culture of curiosity and learning
  • Contribute knowledge and resources to the organization as a whole
  • Maintain clear records and documentation of all facilities and systems
  • Maintain good working relationships with vendors and contractors, and serve as point person for vendors onsite

Who you might be:

You may have…

  • 3-5 years of experience successfully managing a property of equivalent scale and/or complexity
  • Exposure to or a background in handling archival and museum material, and equipment
  • Interest or hands-on experience in fabrication and/or engineering projects
  • Proficiency in google suite, slack, Airtable, asana (or a willingness to learn)

  • Is able to lift & carry 60 lbs and work outdoors in inclement weather. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. 
  • Excels at scheduling, prioritizing, and multi-tasking
  • Is passionate for accuracy and precise attention to detail
  • Thrives at working independently as well as collaboratively
  • Is interested in an immediate full time position
  • Has a problem solving mindset

What you can expect:

  • Generous benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 6% 401k match, commuting benefits, and parental leave
  • Base Salary: $65,000 - 80,000
